Estate Huis Schouwenburg

The 17th century Estate Huis Schouwenburg carried out a large-scale restoration in 2012. During the renovation, a lot of attention was paid to sustainability in order to preserve the cultural history as well as to pay attention to the future. In addition to traditional high-temperature heating with radiators and convectors, the property uses low-temperature wall and floor heating as the basic heating. The heat generation for this is done with solar collectors and biomass - wood pellets - in two pellet boilers. Draft protection and the use of the interior hatches, together with the heating, ensure a comfortable indoor climate with relatively clear heating costs. In addition to the solar collectors, PV panels - invisibly - were also placed on the flat part of the roof to generate the energy. Huis Schouwenburg not only pays a lot of attention to the building, but also to the preservation and maintenance of the garden and the park. Since 2011, the orchard and vegetable garden have been restored and a chicken coop and wood shed, a greenhouse and a berry cage have been made and the historic playhouse at the end of the sight line has been restored to its former glory.
